An ordinary day in Israel

Happy second night of Hanukkah y'all!  Mum and I spent tonight lighting candles with a community centre of Holocaust survivors in Rishon.  It was really something.  We sang Hanukkah songs, ate (more) sufganiyot and heard stories from the Holocaust survivors themselves.  One friendly Grandma from Poland spent the entire time telling me off for not being able to speak Hebrew or Yiddish.  Apparently if you don't speak Yiddish, you aren't a real Jew / are a goy as she described it.

Before all the candle lighting fun, we visited Yad Vashem - the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.  I didn't revisit the museum as I have been twice but I spent some time walking around and appreciating the beautiful grounds, art and memorials.

For dinner we went to Hanoi in Tel Aviv with my housemates, a place I have been wanting to go since the blogs told me about how awesome it is.  Now it wasn't particularly cheap and it wasn't the best Vietnamese food I have ever had but they had delicious pho and real pork pork belly (both an extreme rarity in this country) and free jasmine tea so it was a 10/10.  The pork belly was really everything I had imagined plus more.
